About Us
Pediatric Surgical Services, Inc. was started over 35 years ago when Dr. Courtney came to Springfield as the first Pediatric Surgeon in Western Massachusetts. The practice has grown considerably performing over 2,200 operations per year on infants and young adults. We provide comprehensive Pediatric Surgical care to infants, children, and adolescents. Services provided include state of the art newborn surgery, minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic and thoracoscopic procedures), hernia surgery, trauma surgery, abdominal surgery, endoscopic surgery, oncology surgery, thoracic surgery, head and neck surgery, and urologic surgery.
The practice has an association with Baystate Children's Hospital which is the Western Massachusetts Teaching Hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine. Baystate Children's Hospital has a 55 bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, 10 Bed PICU, a 35 bed Infant and Children's Unit and a 10 bed Adolescent and Young Adult Unit. The surgeons all have a faculty appointment at Tufts. For over 5 years the practice has had a Chest Wall Clinic at Shriner's Hospital in Springfield in which children with various chest wall abnormalities are evaluated and treated with both non-operative and surgical reconstructive procedures. Some out patient surgery is also performed at Holyoke Medical center.
